Abstract:

Two major concerns for cement factories are production costs and environmental aspects. Different pozzolans such as brick, potted clay,volcanic rocks, sedimentary rocks and rice bran were used to cement produced by Lamerd factory in south of Iran. Among these additives,rice bran fails to be proper pozzolans. This research shows that using pozzolans up to 10% does not have significant effect on the quality ofLamerd cement. In fact, the additives can reduce both the production costs, and emission of CO2 (reduction of more than 300 tons CO2 perday) in cement factories. Almost the similar textures of compositions for different mixed cements were determined using XRD and XRFexperiments. It seems that pozzolanic cement may be the essential remedy for energy saving and environmental aspects in the cementfactory policies. Adding 10% pozzolan, for 4000 ton cement per day, the Lamerd cement factory can save around $76000 which is verypromising value.
