Abstract:
Recently, bonded joints have found their increasing applications especially in diverse fields of construction industry. Due to the mismatch in Poison’s ratios and coefficients of thermal expansion of the adjacent adherends which are mainly responsible for the debonding failure, high boundary layer interfacial stresses exist at the free edges. Therefore, it is crucial to examine the mechanical behavior of such joints when integrated as structural elements. The present study, proposes two shear and normal stress functions in order to explicitly and accurately predict the interfacial stress distributions along the bonding line. A concise MATLAB code was designed to execute the proposed task. In addition, a scaling analysis was done on a CFRP-concrete bonded joint to examine the dependencies of the interfacial shear and normal stresses upon the geometric and mechanical properties of adherends. The current framework can be conveniently extended to the mechanical and thermal stress analyses of various bonded structures under different types of loadings
