Abstract:

In every construction project, soil plays the fundamental role effectively distributing the loads of the structure and if not stable or strong enough the structure is prone to settlement, cracks and failure under the applied loads. This is more likely in clays. The purpose of this article is to evaluate the beneficial use of agricultural and industrial waste as an additive to soil to improve its engineering properties. Bagasse ash is the organic waste material product of the sugar industry. In this research different percentages of bagasse ash and cement have been added to the clay in order to stabilize it and by the means of the standard Proctor, the Atterberg Limits tests and unconfined compressive strength the properties of the soil are investigated. The results show that by adding bagasse ash, the physical and strength properties of the soil are improved
