Abstract:

Purpose: To assess the practices of osteoporosis prevention lifestyle (nutrition, physical activity, sun exposure, and smoking) among adolescent girls in Isfahan, Iran.Methods: lifestyle Questionnaires consisting of items assessing nutrition, physical activity, sun exposure, cigarette smoking and alcohol consumption were administered to 210 girls aged 11–15 years. Descriptive statistics, Chi-square tests and t-tests, were used to analyze the data.Results: of 210 subjects 195 completed the questionnaire, 33(18%) of participant had regular daily sun exposure, while only 52 (28.9%) of all girls had sufficient sun exposure duration. regarding diet and exercise, none of the Female adolescents had desirable lifestyle, as the diet of 38 girls (19.5%) were not desirable and 157 (80.5%) were semi desirable. On the other hand, based on exercise scores, 144 participants (67.6%) had not acceptable and 69 (32.4%) had desirable lifestyle. Conclusion: These results indicated the need for effective interventions to promote osteoporosis-protective practices among adolescent girls.
