Abstract:
A simple technique to design low power and wide dynamic range Variable Gain Amplifier (VGA) is proposed. In this paper, although the proposed idea is applied on a folded cascode amplifier however it can be exert to different amplifiers for achieving variable gain too. In spite of the suggested VGA is so simple and compact nevertheless extensive dynamic range of gain (-8 to 42dB) accompanied reliable -3dB bandwidth (79MHZ) can be achieved as well. Also Total Power consumption is 3.38mW. Moreover, the suggested structure is simulated in all process corners and different temperatures in the region of -50 to +50 ºC. Simulations are performed for all corner conditions by HSPICE using the BSIM3 model of a 0.18μm CMOS technology and MATLAB software.
