Abstract:

The aim of this study is to investigate and identify the concept of madness in Parvin Etesami’s The Mad and The Chain by using Michel Foucault’s theory of madness. Etesami uses the language of madness in order to manifest and utter wise matters. The poet exercises madman who is using the language of madness to declare truth; therefore, madness becomes a positive and productive force in this poem. Having this in mind, I take Foucault theory of madness as a starting point for analysis of Etesami’s The Mad and The Chain. In conclusion, it is argued that the work of Etesami is influential in Michel Foucault ideas, and the researcher must keep a careful eye on how madness, in a way that Foucault defines, turn out to be productive and make new social behaviors emerge in the character of poem who is mad. Furthermore, it is regarding to productivity of madness
