Abstract:

Vertical greening systems have historically been used essentially for ornamental purposes, and contain theestablishment of climbing vegetation which is rooted in the containers, and which is then trained to growdirectly on wall surfaces or on spread over the surface wire or fence framework. Vertical greening can providea cooling potential on the building surface, which is very important during summer periods in warmerclimates. Energy saving is one among multiple benefits that a greenery system can offer to a building. Thebest cooling effect was measured in the vicinity of living wall system with a reduction of 3.3 °C and 1.6 °Crespectively at the distance of 15 cm and 30 cm from the green wall. This paper reviews several research thatapply vertical greenery system in reducing temperature, energy consumption and cooling energy request.Cooling effects of plants are effective in temperature reduction. The ability of a building to operate andfunction with minimum energy consumption is energy efficiency. The direct greening system and the livingwall system based on planter boxes are the most effective wind barriers, the reduction of the wind velocityaffects the thermal resistance of the building envelope and thus his efficiency
