Abstract:
Skin cancer is the most common world malignancy. Of all cases of cancer observed in Iran in1383, about 13% to 17% were the different types of skin cancer, with 12.6% and 17% for maleand females, respectively, in Khorasan province in the same year. 80% of sun exposureoccurs before the age of 21. There is strong evidence confirming a link between sunexposure and skin cancer. The present study is the experimental half with two control andexperimental groups (n=33) of mothers having 12-18 year-old teens. Data were collectedusing Social Cognitive Theory-Based questionnaire completed by mothers and teensperformance questionnaire (researcher-made) in three stages. The collected data wereanalyzed through descriptive †analytical tests using SPSS 16 software. According to theresults of this study, a significant difference was observed between the mean scores of SocialCognitive Theory Variables in mothers and teens performance in the experimental groupthree months after the training intervention (p<0/001). But, there was no significant differencein the considered variables in the control group. The results of this study show theeffectiveness of training intervention based on Social Cognitive Theory on promoting sunlightprotective behaviors of teens through training their mothers. Also, perceived barriers can bereduced through increasing awareness of the expected consequences of the sun protectivebehaviors and the ground for promoting the sun protective behaviors among teens can becreated.
