Abstract:

In the present investigation, authors made an attempt to study the erosion solid behaviour of pristine epoxy and their nanocomposites. The nanocomposites have been prepared with varying amounts viz., 0, 1, 3 and 5 wt% of organo nanoclay (o-MMT) were prepared by in situ polymerisation at room temperature. The nanocomposites were subjected to flexural tests, and the flexural properties were found to be highest in the case of 5% o-MMT filled naocomposites. The solid particle erosion behaviour of epoxy and their nanocomposites has been investigated. The erosion rates of these composites were evaluated at various impingement angles (30°, 45°, 60°, 90°) with a particle velocity of 70 m/s. Also morphological study was carried out for wear out surfaces of all the nanocomposites using scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
