Today, for the first time in human history, over half of the world’s population lives in urban areas. By the end of the century, this share is projected to rise to arond 85%, out of a world population of about 10 billion. This implies there will be 5 billion new urban dwellers to accommodate in the years ahead . (GOV/TDPC/URB ,2011) mazandaran region in addition to the high urban growth as a result ofmigration into the countryside to the city and the seasonal travelers, with horizontal sprawl is that it is very dangerous for future development. Because they have a negative effect of its natural resources like sea, forest, rivers, soil and water resources ,... . In not far future, it will become an ugly urban area, Horizontal an sprawl growth. that area will be faced with many natural and human crises. Thisarticle tries to analyze the compact city and its relationship to their sustainable city. It also compares The sustainability strategies of new patterns of urban design (such as new urbanism, sustainable urban development, smart growth and green growth) with compact city characteristics .
