Abstract:

Crystallization from solution is responsible for 70% of all solid materials produced by the chemical industry. The batch crystallizer is used for crystal production of potassium chlorate with defined crystal shape and size distribution in industrial scale. During cooling operation , generated supersaturation will eventually be consumed for the generation of new particles or for the growth of exiting particles. The objective of this work is studied morphological parameters of potassium chlorate during crystallization in industrial scale. The crystal shape is important that it has to be spherical and size distribution has to be between 106 to 250 microns.Four profile temperature are used for crystallization . The shape of crystal is studied by optical microscope and size distribution is analyzed by sieves. The best condition was taken with starting 68 oC supersaturation until 40 oC by determined cooling program.
