Abstract:

nGO is a graphene derivative comprising of a single layer of carbon atoms with sp2 hybrid orbitals arranged in a hexagonal crystal lattice with sp 3 domains with carbon atoms linked to oxygen functional groups. The surface of nGO can be functionalized with anticancer drugs and functional groups that target cancer cells to improve cancer treatment efficacies, via two distinct techniques, namely, covalent or noncovalent methods. In this review article, we will generally summarize the preparation and functionalization of nGO at first, and then mainly describe the most recent researches in using graphene and its derivatives for drug delivery and cancer theranostic application. Finally, the future perspectives and challenges in this field are also discussed.
