Screening of the antioxidant properties of the methanolicextracts of Salvia brachycalyx Boiss., Stachys lavandulifoliaVahl. and Stachys inflata Benth

Abstract: Methanolic extract from three endemic medicinal plants of Iran were screened for their possible in vitro antioxidant activities by complementary test system, namely DPPH free radical-scavenging. Aerial parts of Salvia brachycalyx Boiss., Stachyslavandulifolia Vahl and Stachys inflata Benth., were examined. The result indicated that the free radical scavenging activity of MeOH extract from S. inflate (IC50=14.1±0.4 μg/ml) was superior to all other extracts, while the phenolic contents from S. inflate (Gallic acid equivalent=515.7±1.3 mg/l) confirmed it.
