Abstract:

A new magnetic composite adsorbent based on magnetic cyclodextrin functionalized graphene oxide, was prepared and used for the removal of cationic methylene blue (MB) dye from water. The magnetic composite was characterized using FT-IR, field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM). Different factors affecting the adsorption efficiency of MB dye such as pH, adsorbent dosage, contacttime, concentration of adsorbate and temperature was investigated to understand adsorption isotherms, kinetics and thermodynamics. The results were fitted well with the Langmuir isotherm and pseudosecond- order kinetic model and the maximum adsorption capacities (Qm) was found to be 2.28 mg g-1 for the adsorption of MB. Thermodynamic studies indicated negatie values of ΔH0 and negative values ofΔG0, which suggest that the adsorption was chemisorption, spontaneous and exothermic. Therefore, the prepared GO-g-Cyclodextrin magnetic composite could be utilized as an highly efficient, magnetically separable and reusable adsorbent for water purification
