Travertine in sarab-goltape mine can be used in engineering projects as borrow materials,construction stones (malone,rubble) as well as non-structural lightweight concrete. It is importantto investigate petrographic, physical, and engineering geology characteristics of these rocks inorder to optimize their use. In this study, physical and petrographic characteristics of these rockshave been studied to assess the geotechnical and engineering properties. This study shows thatthe existence of micritic cement leads to an increase in uniaxial compressive strength. Moreover,intergranular porosity is considered in assessing the trsvertine strength and of highly affects thestrength and efficiency of rock samples.
