Effects of seed in growth and proliferation of BHK cells in suspension culture

Abstract:

Mammalian cells are the most common host for production of proteinaceous drugs and some viral vaccines. BHK cells are known as one of the most widely used animal cells. This study is focused on the effect of initial cell seed number on the growth and proliferation of BHK cells. The culture of BHK cells was performed under the same conditions (temperature 37 , PH=7.2-6.7, stirring speed of 100rpm, operating volume of 500cc and culture time of 48 hours) and for seven different cell seed numbers. The present study can help the manufacturing industries as well as research laboratories in studying BHK cells. It seems that the final number of cells increases with an increase in the initial seed number, but during the experiments and three times of repeated experiments, this hypothesis was rejected. The obtained results show that the optimal number of cell seeds in these experiments is between 300,000 and 400,000 cells per ml . In addition, this optimal number has the best efficiency under the conditions of suspension culture.
