Epistemology and Methodology Challenges AnalysisAffecting the Urban Design Procedure Designation

Propounding theoretical challenges of methodology has become a part of conceptualliterature in urban design field. Disagreement on a constant urban design procedure,whether from the epistemology or methodology point of view, could be illustrated thaturban design procedure has been variable and various in a wide range. By default,epistemology and methodology dimensions affect each other directly in every field;hence, this paper follows endogenous and exogenous theoretical challenges that couldplay a fundamental role in the urban design procedure designation.This study for the purpose of preliminary establishing suchlike structure has analyzed awide range of theories and studies on urban design field in the last hundred years bymeans of meta-analysis and chronologic method, library tools. Study analysis representsthat effective challenges on urban design procedure designation could be evaluated on thetwo endogenous and exogenous dimensions. In endogenous dimension: Worldview,different aspects of experts' points of view, approaches, theories and urban designmovements apart from their context and conditions are significant. Exogenous dimensionis focused on conditions and community context, as a complex and interwoven net, inrelation to urban design procedure. Surveying quantitative endogenous challengesdemonstrate that in conceptual or epistemological endogenous factors: Essence, scale,intervention scope and special focus of discipline, in the procedural or methodologicalendogenous factors: process, procedure, product and decision making and in exogenousfactors scope: legal-management, social-political and economic-investment structures arethe most important factors influencing urban design procedure.
