Abstract:
The paper is based on an observation of the effect of symbolic artefacts in public spaces in three different cities of different countries. Extending some considerations emerging from the case study, the paper advances a reflection on the territorial dimension of artifacts in public spaces and the relationship between different artifacts, social relationships and the public domain. This task entails understanding different artifacts that are subject to both strategic and tactical uses, as well as the relationship between artifacts and the public domain as a territorial configuration. The article attempts to provide a concept of the uses of artifacts in public urban places/square as an instance of territorial formations. The main research aim was to understand how the artifacts in the square define themselves, and how it traces and own boundaries define its own styles. The case studies are from three different cities from three different countries. The countries and the cities are selected by the writer’s home country. The research analyzes three different public spaces in Bangladesh, Iran and Colombia
