Abstract:
Textbooks are inevitable as the main material in the classrooms. Teaching English as a Foreign Language classes are not exceptions in this regard. However, how appropriate the textbooks are for the related courses is the latter issue to be regarded as mandatory. Hence the current study aims to discover the amount to which the newly introduced textbook for the Iranian junior high school students (Prospects series) by the Ministry of Education meet the learners' needs from the teachers' points of view. The Cisar's checklist for evaluating the textbooks has been applied. Out of 80 teachers selected around the country to take part in the study, 43 teachers filled the checklist. Applying the Likert scale, it was revealed that although the mentioned series met the learners' needs in terms of communication and culture, to some extent, but it has left so much to be desired
