Abstract:
Autism as a developmental disorder of the brain is characterizedby difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbalcommunication and stereotyped or repetitive behaviors and insome cases, cognitive delays. Speech problems and speechdelays are prevalent in almost one fourth of autistic children dueto other factors such as neurological and physiological problems.Furthermore, there may be some other language disorders likedyslexia and speech sound disorder affecting speech delaysamong children with autism spectrum disorder and receptivelanguage may lag behind expressive language development inASD. Definitely, it seems that there is a relationship betweenthese two language disorders which can be studied cognitively.Consequently, this research was conducted to investigate therelationship between these disorders from cognitive perspectiveand examine the underlying factors that contribute thesedifficulties. Our findings indicate that cognitive deficits such asinadequate phonological processing, inefficiency in the workingor short-term memory system, difficulties with automatizingskills and Problems connected with visual processing in autismboys affect reading process and then comprehension generallyand consequently cause early speech and language delay
