Abstract:
Emerging evidence indicates that variation in the PINK1 may play a role in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes. To investigate any association between Type 2 diabetes mellitus and two single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in PINK1, Ala340Thr and Asn521Thr in the Sistan and Baluchistan province Iran population. We genotyped 100 non diabetic controls and 100 Type 2 diabetic patients for SNPs Ala340Thr and Asn521Thr of PINK1 gene, using polymerase chain reaction - restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) analysis in southeast of Iran. There were no statistically significant differences in allele frequencies of SNPs Ala340Thr and Asn521Thr comparing control with Type 2 diabetic subjects (C frequency 38.5% vs. 37.5%, P=0.885 for Asn521Thr, A frequency 6.5% vs. 5%, P=0.649 for Ala340Thr). The genotype distributions of these SNPs had no association with the risk of Type 2 diabetes in southeast population of Iran.
