Abstract:
The present study aims at investigating two main purposes. First, therelationship between critical thinking and the use of language learningstrategies among Iranian EFL learners in two different universitymajors including TEFL and translation. Second, the difference betweenhigh and low critical thinkers in terms of using language learningstrategies in these two majors. Data was gathered from 55 TEFLstudents and 85 translation students at Azad University using theStrategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL; Oxford, 1990), and aquestionnaire of Critical Thinking (Honey, 2004). Totally eight researchquestions were answered. The results of the study show that 1) there is asignificant relationship between the language learning strategy use andcritical thinking of TEFL students, 2) there is a significant relationshipbetween the language learning strategy use and critical thinking oftranslation students, 3) there is a significant relationship between thetypes of language learning strategy use and critical thinking of TEFLstudents, 4) there is not a significant relationship between the types oflanguage learning strategy use and critical thinking of translationstudents.
