Abstract:

A numerical analysis of the thermodynamic second law in laminar forced convection flow in a duct with the inclined backward step is presented. The fluid flow and heat transfer over backward facing steps play important roles in engineering applications. In most cases, these types of steps create separated flows and increase entropy generation in a system. The second law of thermodynamics in a forced convection flow is employed for calculating entropy generation in the flow. In this paper, the governing equations including mass, momentum and energy equations are solved by computational fluid dynamic (CFD) techniques. For simulating the inclined surface, the blocked-off method is used. Also the effects of the inclination angle on the friction coefficient, entropy generation and Bejan number are presented
