Abstract:
This paper presents a new approach to design a speed controller of a DC motor based on the fractional order proportional integral derivative (FOPID) control scheme. The proposed method employs an artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm in order to calculate the optimum parameters of FOPID controller. Because of excellent controlling characteristics of DC motor, it has been widely used in the practical and industrial purposes. So, it is really important to suggest some methods in order to promote the DC motor performance. Due to conducting the simulation based on the optimization techniques, cost functions with different scenarios are considered. Also, the effect of different cost functions on the DC motor performance is evaluated. To show the efficiency of the ABC algorithm in finding the globaloptimum FOPID parameters, simulation results are compared with results obtained by particle swarm optimization (PSO) method. By comparing the results, it is indicated that the ABC method has a powerful performance in order to find the optimum FOPID parameters. Also, it is concluded that the multi-criteria cost function can help to achieve the appropriate FOPID controller
