Abstract:

A properly designed steel plate shear wall has superior ductility, high initial stiffness, stable hysteresis loops and good energy absorption capacity. These characteristics make the system more suitable in high-risk seismic regions. The system has been used for new buildings as well as for upgrading existing steel or reinforced concrete buildings. The main objective of this investigation is to identify the parameters that affect the behaviour of a steel plate shear wall system in tall buildings. The finite element model was used to simulate the monotonic responses of three test specimen steel plate shear wall. It was shown that the finite element model is able to predict accurately the monotonic behaviour of steel plate shear walls. The model selected for this investigation was subjected to shear force and constant gravity load. Finally, the effects of a set of parameters investigated.
