Abstract:
In this paper, Factors affecting the natural frequency of the wind turbine tower is examined. For this purpose, the effective of the foundation modelling and the Nacelle mass variation in freevibration are studied using transfer matrix method (TMM). To use the TMM, the wind turbine toweris alienated into constant cross sectional elementsand the transfer matrix is derivative for each element of the tower by means of Euler-Bernoulli’sbeam differential equation. Through modelling ofthe tower support as an elastic support, the total transfer matrix is obtained considering boundaryconditions of the tower and constructing the pointmatrix. The results attained by the TMM are presented and the natural frequencies of the towerare calculated in a case study. The presented TMMresults are compared with the finite elements method results which show good agreement. Also,it can be concluded from the case study that Nacelle mass variations in the low frequencies are more important. On the other, the wind turbinetower foundation actually has a finite stiffness and elastic foundation model should be taken into account in the detailed analysis.
