Abstract:

Wastewater disposal in the ocean is an effective and common method in coastal areas. However, this has adverse impacts on the coastal environment. The use of outfalls with T diffusers and diluting the wastewater will reduce the adverse effects. One of the governing parameters of dilution is mr the ratio of ambient current momentum to the effluent discharge momentum. In this study a laboratory experiment on performance of T diffusers with different values of mr is simulated with CORMIX, CORMIX is a well known length scale model developed for the analysis and prediction of wastewater dilution and trajectory of T diffusers in water bodies. The results from the simulation with CORMIX showed that for regimes with relatively weak ambient currents with mr<0.1 CORMIX performs well while in the regimes with relatevely strong ambient current with mr>0.1 CORMIX is not able to predict the dilution properly and it underestimate the dilution.
