Abstract:

In this paper we present an efficient block based motion estimation algorithm, dubbed Modified Adaptive Rood Pattern Search with use of the Global Motion Information (GMIMARPS). This method can be used in video codecs to reduce the temporal redundancies and to enhance their compression ratio. Here, first a fast Global Motion Estimation (GME) algorithm is performed. The obtained motion vector is then assigned to the blocks with the global motion. These blocks are named GMBs .Next, for the blocks whose motions are not equal to the global motion, called NGMBs , motion vectors are found by introducing the Modified Adaptive Rood Pattern Search (MARPS) algorithm. Afterwards, the proposed method is compared with the well-known Block Matching Algorithms (BMAs). Experimental results show the superiority of our method over other algorithms that exist in the literature
