Chemical Compositions of the SDE PreparedEssential Oil of Satureja bachtiarica bung

The essential oil from flowering aerial parts of Satureja bachtiarica bung was analyzed by GC/MS. This essential oil was prepared by a modified Likens-Nickerson’s simultaneous distillation-extraction (SDE) method. SDE method showed a higher recovery of essential oil compositions. The results indicated that SDE is more selective than the conventional steam distillation method in the extraction of oxygenated monoterpenes in essential oil. Twenty five constituents, representing 99.68% of the total components in the oil of Satureja bachtiarica bung were characterized carvacrol (54/04٪),cis-jasmone (15.19 ٪), p-cymene(3.19), β-bisabolene(5.31٪) and geranyl acetone(5.00٪) were the major components of the oil. While monoterpens consisted of 5.68%, oxygenated monoterpenes consisted of 76.28%, sesquiterpenes consisted of 6.92% and oxygenated sesquiterpenes consisted of 0.78% of the oil .
