Abstract:

Risk-based Inspection (RBI) Method comes after Run to Fail Inspection method, Fixed Interval Inspection method,and Condition-based Inspection method in the evolution of inspection methods. For identification of a risk, first risksfor each element of equipment are computed, and then maximum risks of the equipment are considered as the risk ofthe whole equipment. Using analytical hierarchy process (AHP), this study deals with a decision making model forselection of a proper policy for maintenance and repairs with risk-based inspection approach for Abadan OilRefinery. Therefore, at first risk-based inspection process was applied qualitatively in distillation vacuum unit of 200cases, and risk matrix was drawn for the equipment of that system so that the equipment in the unit were in threeareas of high, moderate and low risks. Then, applicable maintenance and repairs policies were identified in thementioned unit and four final criteria of cost, value added, safety, feasibility were selected through adjustment andscreening primary criteria for decision making and placement in analytical hierarchy process. Finally, the results werecompared with applicable measures and comments of experts and professionals and they were proposed forimplementing in future essential repairs of other operational units.
