Strategy and technological options for emerging markets

The technical development of the last decade shows a very clear trend for heavy duty engines on the one hand but a very complex one for passenger car power plants on the other hand. This presentation will analyse the most important technical options for passenger car engines related to the driving forces as economical, ecological or legal boundary conditions. It is absolutely essential to analyse and understand a certain technical solution in order to find its feasibility for a given market or country. The newest technical fechnical features are not necessarily the best for any market thus the driving factor for different technical approaches are very different all over the world; for example the availability and the price structure of different fuels, customer expectations, different legislations as for example the exhaust emission legislations, the quality of the traffic infrastructure such as the road network, garage network, etc. At the moment the highest sophisticated but even the most expensive engines are developed and fabricated in Japan and European countries but even these two areas have a major difference due to the different fuel price structures and legislations.
