Abstract:
In this work, the preparation of nonspherical particles via seeded dispersion polymerization of ethyl hexyl methacrylate (EHMA) in the presence of allyl methacrylate (AMA) seed particles in the methanol/water media using poly (vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) as a dispersant in the presence of decane droplets was discussed. The effect of various polymerization conditions such as EHMA/AMA seed particles weight ratio on the shapes of the obtained AMA particles was studied. The experimental results showed that particles with more nonspherical shapes were obtained with increasing the EHMA/PAMA which is because of increasing the absorption amounts of hydrocarbon by second polymer domains.
