Abstract:

A simple, fast and high efficiency method for extraction and pre-concentration of trace amounts of Sunset Yellow food dye is using SBA-15 Nano-sorbent that its level is modified by Cationic Surfactant Cetyl Trimethyl Ammonium Bromide (CTAB) and as a successful sorbent is developed before measuring them by spectrophotometer. The modified SBA-15 Nano-sorbent can be easily spread in food samples. Sorbent and Nano composites characteristic was studied by transmission electron microscopy (TEM, BET, TGA, FT-IR and CHNS-O). Some of the parameters in the extraction of dye, such as: pH of sample, the type of recovery solvent, the volume of surfactant, the amount of modified Nano sorbent, the time of dye extraction, solution ionic strength, the effect of sample size and the effect of interfering species were studied. Under optimal conditions concentration factor of 20 was achieved for 100 ml of sample. The calibration curve in the range of 1-20 micrograms per ml was linear. The detection limit of method was equal to 0.27 micrograms per ml. RSD was obtained as %3.57 for 4 repetitive measuring of Sunset Yellow with concentration of 10 mg per liter. The proposed methodology was used with satisfactory results for determining Sunset Yellow food dye in negligible amounts in real samples such as: orange juice, saffron color, delester lemon, popsicles, smarties, mustard & pufforn.Key words: SBA-15, Sunset Yellow
