Abstract:
In this paper, a new combinatorial framework is proposed for optimal placement of Unified Power Flow Controllers in power networks. The individual and hybrids of five evolutionary optimization techniques, namely Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm, Genetic Algorithm, Harmony Search Algorithm, Big Bang – Big Crunch and Imperialistic Competitive Algorithm have been employed to study the performance of the proposed method. The values of objective function algorithms have been compared where the simulations are performed on the IEEE-14 bus power system. The results show that the proposed hybrid infrastructure perform more acceptable than the individuals and amongst, the hybrid of Harmony Search Algorithm with Big Bang – Big Crunch out performs the other methods to select the optimal location and the optimal parameter setting of Unified Power Flow Controllers via minimizing total power loss and maximizing the total transfer capability in the power network.
