Organoclays in Tyre Tread Formulations

Partly substitution of carbon black with three different types of organoclay in a model tyre tread compound was studied. The compounds were prepared in 2 liter banbury mixer and were finalized on a two roll mills.Promote curing behavior from ODR data in the presence of organoclays was observed. Failure properties of compounds such as tear resistance, crack growth and abrasion were dropped for organoclay filled compounds. However, it was observed that abrasion behavior of organoclay filled compounds could be modified with some changes in other compound ingredients. Behavior was similar for all three types of the organoclays.
