Abstract:
Polymer flooding is a noticeable method to improve the efficiency of enhanced oil recovery.Polymer flooding technology is to increase the injected water viscosity by adding polymers. The polymers are used to boost the sweeping efficiency for displacing liquid in the reservoir and enhancing the oil recovery. The most important restriction that should be considered in using water-soluble polymers is polymers thermo stability which impedes their use in high temperature reservoirs. Therefore in this research, the rheological behavior of a copolymer consisting 2- Acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propane sulfonic acid (AMPS) and acrylic acid (AA) with different initiator concentrations were investigated at ambient and oil reservoir temperatures (25 and 80 °C). It was found that by increasing temperature, the co-polymer Loss Modulus decreased, but such trend was not observed for the Storage Modulus. Moreover, enhancement of apparent viscosity at low shear rates was more considerable at lower initiator concentration
