Sulfation of alginate has attained lots of attention as a result of improved blood compatibility and heparinmimetic properties of the product. Degree of substitution (DS) has a direct effect on biological properties of the modified polymer. In the present investigation alginate sulfate with different DS values was synthesized using certain concentrations of dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC) and sulfuric acid reagents. Prepared alginate sulfates were characterized by FTIR. DS values of synthesized polymers were measured by elemental analysis
