Synthesis and Characterization of Polybenzimidazole Nanocomposite Membranes Based on Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes and Ionic Liquids

In this study, ionic liquid (IL) / multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) / polybenzimidazole (PBI) membranes have been prepared via solvent casting method. X-ray diffraction, FT-IR spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and field emission scanning electron microscopy were carried out to characterize the membranes. The addition of IL and MWCNT into the PBI membrane improved the thermal stability of the composite membranes. The reinforcing effect of the content of MWCNTs on the mechanical properties of the membrane has been evaluated, and it is found that the tensile properties were increased with the increasing content of f-MWCNTs
