Removal of Heavy Metals From Aqueous Solution Using Resorcinol Formaldehyde Aerogel

Resorcinol-formaldehyde (RF) aerogel was used to remove heavy metal ions from aqueous solutions. RF aerogel was synthetized by polycondensation of resorcinol with formaldehyde followed by subcritical drying conditions. The ability of RF aerogels to remove Cd(II) ion from aqueous solution was investigated using batch adsorption technique with respect to the changes in pH, and initial heavy metal concentration. The maximum adsorption capacity of metal ion Cd(II), was found to happen at pH 5.5 after about two hours. The results also showed that RF aerogels can be used as an effective sorbent for the removal of heavy metal ion Cd (II) from aqueous solutions
