Polymeric surfactants, which contain both hydrophobic segments and hydrophilic segments, have attracted great interest in recent years because of their unique solutionproperties as a result of their amphiphilic molecular structure. In the past decade, extensive studies in academic andindustrial laboratories have focused on the development of functional surfactants, especially surfactants containing unsaturated bonds. Such polymeric surfactants can be used asemulsifiers in emulsion polymerization and can copolymerize with latex, thus imparting to the latex excellent stability against high electrolyte concentrations, freeze–thaw cycling
