In this paper nanocrystalline MgAl2O4 spinel powders were synthesized with a new synthesis method by co-precipitation method with CTAB as surfactant. The prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), N2 adsorption (BET), thermal gravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TGA/DTA), Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR). The effects of surfactant to metal molar ratio on the structural properties of the samples were investigated. The obtained results showed that the addition of surfactant have a significant effect on the specific surface area and thermal stability of the samples.
