Urban Runoff Pollution Prevention and Control Planning

Runoff water from buildings, streets and sidewalks carries many pollutants. When rain falls or snow melts, the runoff washes pollutants off our streets, parking lots, construction sites, industrial storage yards, and lawns. Some businesses and industries don t dispose of waste properly and dump pollutants directly into waterways. Roads, highways, and bridges are another source of significant contributions of pollutants to our nation’s waters. A large amount of this run off pollution is carried directly to water which can deteriorate water quality and lead to fish kills and other ecological problems. This paper is an attempt to overview some suggestions on how people can prevent water pollutions.
