Abstract:

In this study the lead biosorption by Lactobacillus bulgaricus was investigated. Ion exchange is the mechanism of biosorption. The media pH, weight of dried biomass and initial ion concentration were the most influential factors that affect the biosorption efficiency. At high acidic solution (pH<1.5) and also in alkali solution no significant absorption occurred. In these experiments the highest biosorption of lead occurred at pH value of 6 and the biomass concentration of 4.5 g/l. The removal efficiency of 88.2% was obtained at initial concentration of 50 mg/l. Finally, it was found that Lactobacillus bulgaricus had high efficiency in low ion concentration (lower than 100ppm) and upper 100 ppm the percent of removal was lower than 50%.
