Abstract:

Background & Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of Islamic fasting and physical activity on body composition, fasting glucose and lipid profile in active and in-active adult men. Material &Methods: Sixteen healthy adult men with average age of 45.23±2.4 years and average height of 177.43±3.6 cm participated in this study and were placed in equal numbers into two active and inactive groups. The participants weight were 76.38±3.2 kg (active) and 82.11±5.06 kg (inactive) and their BMI were 24.12±4.14 kg/m2 (active) and 27.19±3.91 kg/m2 (inactive). Results: results showed that the within-group mean differences related to weight and BMI were significant in both active and inactive groups (p < 0.05). However, despite decreased body fat percentage, the changes were not statistically significant (p > 0.05). The results also indicated that the between- and within-group mean differences related to TC, HDL-c and LDL-c variables were not statistically significant (p > 0.05). Conclusion: according to the results, physical activities together with fasting result in decrease in glucose and TG levels. Therefore, with an appropriate diet program and enough physical activity the desired weight loss and physical fitness can be achieved
