The separation of substances by distillation or other methods that have high energy consumption and are harmful to the environment, are not environmentally and economically useful. Therefore, the extraction of phosphoric acid from water is an important problem in the wet process method.In this paper, experimental solubility and tie-line data for water-phosphoric acid-propyl acetate ternary system were obtained at 308.2 K and atmospheric pressure for the first time. The investigated system displays a type-1 of LLE behavior. Cloud point method was used to obtain the solubility data and the Karl-Fischer, acidimetric titration, and refractive index methods were used to determine the tie-line data. The quality of the experimental tie-line data was determined through the Othmer–Tobias and Hand correlation equations. The experimental distribution coefficients and separation factors were evaluated for this system. Maximum and minimum amount of separation factor are 3.20 and 1.66 respectively. The results show the ability of this organic solvent for extraction of phosphoric acid from water.
