Abstract:

Aspergillosis is the fungal infection with broad range of diseases caused by a fungal mould called Aspergillus in human and animals. These diseases from localized conditions to fatal disseminated infections in humans and various animals. Aspergillus species have worldwide repartition. Due to increase in fungal infection in immunocompromised patients /animals, limited number of current antifungal agents and antifungal drug resistance occurrence, attempts to earn suitable and alternative treatment strategies with less disadvantage is essential. In past decade the using of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), as novel agents in treatment of diseases are attracting interests. The aim of this study was to determine antifungal effects of various forms of AgNPs against toxigenic fungus, Aspergillus flavus and pathogenic fungus, Aspergillus fumigatus. Materials and methods: Antifungal effect of Nano-silver particles was measured against A. flavus and A. fumigatus by both agar dilution and broth microdilution method (BMD). A. fumigatus showed more sensitivity to antifungal effect of AgNPs than A. flavus. But inhibitory effect of AgNPs on two tested fungi was lower compared with ketoconazole as positive control. Application of AgNPs as novel drugs is suggested in inhibition of pathogenic fungi (A. flavus and A. fumigatus) growth because of proven antifungal and antimicrobial properties.
