Abstract:

English for academic purpose(EAP) refers to any English teaching that relates to a study purpose. One of the most factors which is most important in language learning in general andESP in particular is to see whether textbook and materials are useful the purpose of course or not . it will inevitably determine the major part of the classroom teaching and learning . The aim of this study was to evaluate EAP materials in a pre-university course in a Branch ofIslamic Azad University in trying to achieve the purpose of the study, two types of instruments for teachers population were devised. 90 EAP teachers have been selected randomly from Ahwaz, Shahid Beheshti university, Tehran North Branch, Damavand and Masjed Soleymananswered the questionnaire after administering the questionnaires, the obtained data were analyzed by computer, using SPSS version 18, to see whether or not the different parts of thetextbooks are appropriate, the results were analyzed descriptively. The obtained resultsindicated that some parts of the textbooks are appropriate and need modification and improvement, while some parts seemed to be favorable. The results of strategies and skillstextbook also indicated that these textbooks need to be modified in terms of the new approaches in language learning and teaching as well as the students needs. The finding of this study are also expected to be significant and useful to materials developers, especially those who are involved in designing, writing, compiling, and evaluating EAP and ESP textbooks in Iran.
