Abstract:

Recent research on accuracy among EFL post-elementary students’ writing requires students to work on metacognitive strategies collaboratively. The study used 41 intermediate adult EFL learners whohad difficulties writing, especially tense of the verbs, accurately in their exams. To that end, 4 classesof intermediate students from a famous institute in Iran were assigned a pre-test from International Preliminary English Test (PET), after that they were divided into two groups of control andexperimental. After teaching metacognitive strategies through examples to the experimental group, two post–tests were assigned and later analyzed by SPSS statistical package to recognize the difference between the means of the groups through the estimation of independent sample t-test. The results revealed that using metacognitive writing strategies collaboratively had a significant effect on tense accuracy among low proficiency EFL learners.
