Abstract:

Aims: This study aims at investigating the validity and reliability of Flensborg-Madsen s sense of coherence scale and the association of sense of coherence and psychological hardiness with general health. Methods: This study was an applied and correlation research. Stratified random sampling was used for selecting subjects from Ahwaz Islamic Azad University (N=383). They completed Flensborg-Madsen s sense of coherence scale, Najarian’s Hardiness Scale and Goldberg’s General Health Scale Data was analyzed for factor analysis and measuring correlation. As a convenience sample, 101 students of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad were used for testing and retesting. To analyze the data, the confirmatory factor analysis, Canonical s correlation coefficient and Pearson correlation coefficient were applied for investigating the association between variables. Results: Findings showed that sense of coherence scale is reliable and valid, with a small modification. Moreover, sense of coherence and hardiness can predict general health. there was also significantly positive correlation between sense of coherence and psychological hardiness.
