Performance evaluation of Nano-composite membranes for simultaneous hydrogen production and purification in a tubular membrane reactor

Nano- composite silica/ alumina membranes prepared by CVD method weresuccessfully used to separate H2 from an equimolar mixture of steam reforming gases in a membrane reactor. Conventional catalyst of Ni-Alumina was used in process and BET analysis showed 120 m2/g for membrane surface area. Permeation tests showed gas permeance in the range of 0.5-1.1×10-6 mol/s.m2.Pa with good hydrogen separation factor of 5-500 at temperature range of 773-1073 K.
